9/12

I feel that design is something that connects to a common problem. The main goal of design is effective communication. Designers aim to communicate messages in a way that makes sense that is also is appealing. If everyone felt they were a designer and attempted to communicate, it would result in a miserable mess.

The being said, I think that the evolving field of design means that designers need to have an emphasis on a certain area. If a designer is expected to have proficient skills in every area of design, it will most likely become too difficult to keep up on the new trends in each area. Why be mediocre in many areas of design when you could excel at a high rate in a specific area? That’s not to say that not having a general awareness of major trends and ideas occurring in different areas of design isn’t necessary. My point is that having an excellent skill set in a specific area in design will yield better solutions and better design.
