The Great Divide

What is The Great Divide?: "A continental divide separates major streams that ultimately flow in divergent paths and will never flow into each other before entering an ocean or sea."

This is the main driving force to our concept. The Marquette Interchange acts as a Great Divide to Milwaukee and creates diversity on either side of the interstate. These "major streams" can be considered to be different types of people who don't associate themselves with one another or communicate to some extent. They all migrate to those that are similar to themselves. We are taking the approach that one side of the interstate is safe and one side is dangerous.

Location: We chose to do our project underneath the interstate roadways to make our typography stronger.

Materials: We will be digging letters out of the ground and filling them with water. This water also relates back to our major concept of flowing streams. We will use clean water in "The Great" and dirty water in "Divide." This directly relates to money and income, again talking about our two different populations located on either side of the interstate.

Typeface: We will be using a simple sans-serif typeface to connect the two concepts. We are still researching gill sans, futura, and helvetica to use.
