I believe that the first photo on your post does the best job at matching that "dead skin" look that you are going for. You could always try adding some reds, greens, and/or purples to the fabric to make it look more like dead skin. I think you should work a bit more with the composition though if you are going with the first photo. The text seems a bit claustrophobic.
Agreed, I lose the type in the first one, which I think is the closest to what you are going for. It takes me a second to figure out what the type is saying. Looks good though.
